The national apartment price index fell 1.2% to 594.8 in June, but that number hides a much rougher picture underneath it. Two people signing a lease this month, one in Tel Aviv and one in Jerusalem, are looking at opposite trends.

Tel Aviv apartments dropped 0.9% to an index of 563.2, and Merkaz fell hardest of all, down 3.2% to 584.5. Jerusalem moved the other way, up 1.1% to 576.2, and the North rose 1.0% to 664.7. New apartments nationally slipped 0.8% to 541.2, a softer decline than the overall market.

If you are pricing a lease, the district figure tells you more than the national one. Look at the index for your own district, not the headline average, before you decide whether the number on the table looks reasonable.
